„The science of astrology is as old as Earth"
Does it affect a person's destiny when and where he was born? I recently came across a very interesting book, Dr. Alexander Cannon's The Magic of the East - The Mysticism and Wonders of Tibet. The English neurologist, hypnotist (nowadays we would rather call him a psycho- / hypnotherapist) wrote about his trip to Tibet in 1932, his conversations among the knowledgeable yogis, and the events he experienced there, which are unusual for the Western eye.
Does the moment of our birth affect our destiny?
I found a section where the author discusses astrology with the llama of one of the Tibetan monasteries. More comprehensibly, more precisely, in a way that is also acceptable to the mind of the Western materialist analyst, I have not seen the essence of astrology summarized anywhere.
Let's see what the Tibetan monk, who lived nearly a hundred years ago, said when asked if a person's life and destiny are really determined by the place and time of birth? The questioner was wondering if astrology really works, or is it just millennial nonsense. The lama replied:
"Astrology is the science that studies the relationship of stars to human destiny, animals, trees, and stones. The wise men of the East were also led to Bethlehem by a star. The lives of all of us are determined by a great Compass, and our individual endeavors can only improve or worsen our destiny. Although the study of the stars is not in the context of any other general "search for direction," it does not hurt to know sometimes what the stars say. Western astrology is very different from Tibetan and Indian; yet the results are wonderfully consistent. The relationship of astronomy to humanity can, in my view, be explained by magnetic theory. The earth itself is magnetic and depends in relative terms on space. However, other planets depend on space, and even other worlds and stationary stars. We have already agreed that the human body is magnetic; that there is animal magnetism. But everything is magnetic: the earth, the other planets, the stars, because without magnetic attraction and repulsion we would not be able to stay in balance. We also know that the position of individual celestial bodies and worlds changes from time to time, and that they run into a certain trajectory over time. Consequently, the magnetic effect of these celestial bodies on our earth also changes from time to time ... "
Nowadays, instead of the concept of magnetism, common language often uses energy. Called the Knight of Wisdom, the yogi continued:
"It is an empirical fact that a needle in contact with a magnet retains some of its magnetism even after separation, in other words, the vibrations of the magnetic force of the needle are still the same as the vibrations of the magnet for some time. Let's stop here for a moment. The newborn baby at the moment of birth can be likened to the above needle because it has its own magnetic vibration and its intensity is adjusted to the magnetism that acts on the earth as the magnetic "resultant" of all the celestial bodies in the universe. Thus, at the moment of birth, the baby acquires a certain quality of magnetic vibration, which fluctuates according to the magnetic effect of different celestial bodies on the earth as they change position, and in these ways will affect the individual's mental and physical vibrations. This theory makes a connection between the practical science of astrology and magnetism. The science of astrology is as old as the earth itself. The fact that he stood the test of time proves that it was worth dealing with..."
Astrology points the way, but we have to walk the path
I myself am of the same opinion: it is worthwhile and necessary to "seek" the guidelines of astrology from time to time. After all, astrology compass helps you navigate our way of life. It is not divination, nor does it act for us, but it provides an explanation for what is happening and provides clues for further action.
The western-tropical, Vedic-Indian and Chinese / Tibetan branches are mostly known. (In my experience, life events can be most accurately defined by Vedic astrology.) Many areas, from mundan (secular) astrology to questioning astrology, can be examined by many. We can analyze almost anything with its help: relationship, health, car buying, etc. For example, VediKarrier astrological counseling examines the field of work, career, profession in more detail.
In Europe, the Inquisition, followed by secularization, urbanization, the modern monetary system, and the manipulative - almost hypnotic - mass media, made an impact, reshaping the thinking of the masses: the left hemisphere dominance broke out. Thus, in Western societies to this day, almost anything that has not (yet) been proven that cannot be rationally explained is discarded. As a result, some Western people are still skeptical of astrology (as well), as the author put it:
"Western morality is a material, materialist morality that is unaffected by spiritual and spiritual evidence."
Over time, it is likely that the science so highly regarded will justify the words of the Tibetan sage read above - as many other facts / techniques long known in the East have been proven.
Yet, among other things, the Hungarian folk tradition preserves the tradition of life determined by the stars, of everyday life adapted to the movement of the planets. Countless Hungarian fairy tales and folk songs are interwoven with elements of astrology (Prince Csaba's journey is the Milky Way, the folk song "Three stars are in a row in the sky" refers to the belt of the constellation Orion / Nimrod, etc.), but the festivities of the year are also adjusted to the stars.
Technical progress at the level of medieval moral development
From Dr. Alexander Cannon's book, I could highlight a myriad of ideas that are still very interesting and valuable to people today. Perhaps the following, some paragraphs written before World War II, around 1932, have a message for most:
"We are only prisoners of our bodies as long as we like them. In fact, all the religions of the world also aim for people to strive with heart and soul to free themselves from the bondage of matter. Our world, which we have known for centuries, is coming to an end. This end will approach rapidly, in the form of wars and natural disasters, as a natural consequence of the sad fact that the man who had made tremendous progress in the technical field of the 20th century is still at the level of the Dark Ages in his moral development. However, the inevitable end predicted in the book of Revelation will not be as horrible as the things that precede it, for mankind will awaken to the dawn of a new day when it will shake off the shackles of its material bondage and take its true place of birth under the sun.
[...]
This age is dying because it is materialized and prepared for horrors; therefore he will digest himself. With the disappearance of this age, be it the cause of peaceful or violent death, a new spiritual age is coming to our earth. [...] The "miracles" of the Old and New Testaments are not aerial fabrications. These miracles testify that we have a power that dwarfs all other power. The destructive power of tanks and bombers on civilization and life becomes nothing before the threefold miracle of Faith, Will and Love, the germ of which lives in our hearts and souls."
