OM, the sacred voice

23/03/2021

The aumkar symbolizes the holy syllable OM, pronounced at the beginning and end of Hindu prayers. The syllable actually consists of three sounds (A-U-M). Many see it as the very first voice of the Universe and the socket of ultimate wisdom. OM is the most important base or root mantra, i.e., seed-mantra. In the language of the Bible, OM is almost identical to the world-creating phrase "Let there be light: and there be light."

OM represents the wholeness of the Universe, directing the researcher of spiritual values toward an experience above the senses. The meaning of the OM symbol is: inexhaustible, infinite, complete knowledge, the essence of existence and life.

The sign of OM

The OM sign is the visual form of the OM mantra, which in itself contains a high level of philosophy. It can be interpreted on several levels, forming a complete picture of life (birth, life, death); gives a picture of the three worlds (lower, middle, and upper); about our potential in life: that is, it curves from the unconscious state to consciousness.

The OM sign is a combination of curves, crescents, and dots that have a complex meaning. The four curves of the OM sign represent the four states of consciousness, and the circle represents the Supreme, God. The lower curve reflects wakefulness, the middle the dream, and the upper one reflects the state of deep sleep.

The curves are separated from the transcendental state by a semicircle, the illusion. The semicircle between the veil of illusion, the dreamlike life and the reality of the absolute world. The semicircle does not affect the point. This symbolizes that the highest state is not affected by illusion. In OM's iconography, the circle is spiritual reality, that's the sure point.

The dot or small square of the OM symbol symbolizes the Supreme and indicates the absolute state of our consciousness, as the ultimate goal. Pure consciousness is the fourth state of the plane of absolute peace and happiness. The level where we can really connect with God.
